I was passing through the Santa Ynez valley a couple of weeks ago and picked up several gallons of this oil. Not organic, but estate grown, and the ranch manager Jose informed me that in addition to some fertilizer through the drip system, the only chemical applied to the crop is GF 120, an OMRI listed (approved for use on organic crops) naturally-ocurring (but industrially produced via controled fermentation process) fly bait. The olive fruit fly is new to this region, though they've been dealing with it in Eurpoe for thousands of years. It threatens to decimate CA olive production FYI. The oil is in #2 plastic, but has only been there since it was taken form the fusti 2 days before I picked it up on Oct. 8. Word form Jose is that there is NO fruit on trees for next year's crop, so expect oilive oil to become more expensive (I haven't not researched this forecast, but find it interesting, and worth looking into).
The oil has a lot of character, green and piquant, not for the faint of heart. Delicious in my book!
Anyway, I got the oil at $51.50/gallon, and you can have it at my cost, but only by the gallon, as I won't split it for you. Please contact me off list, as I rarely visit this site. annikaforester at gmail dot com or 201-8169
